Industry Spotlight - Cleantech Investing

According to a new Crunchbase article on cleantech investing under the Biden Administration, venture investors and startup founders believe the president-elect will spark renewed private-sector investment in cleantech and clean energy.

Join RVC and our esteemed guests, Sarah Jane Maxted and Tim Hade, for insights on cleantech venture investing in 2021 and beyond. In addition to their work at Clean Energy for Biden, these two guest speakers have deep cleantech industry expertise.

Sarah Jane (SJ) Maxted is a Principal at ADL Ventures, focused on energy venture development. Most recently, she served as Director of Strategic Initiatives at MIT’s spin-out The Engine, a $250 million dollar venture capital fund focused on advanced tough tech, breakthrough technology. She directed and scaled the MIT Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program across 40+ global regions to develop their regional innovation ecosystems. SJ also spent time in the private sector working for two different consulting firms including Deloitte’s Federal Energy and Emerging Markets practices where she focused on innovation, strategy and operational opportunities across public and private sector clients including National Labs and utilities. SJ served in President Obama’s Administration at the United States Department of Energy (U.S. DOE), where she served as Special Assistant to Secretary Dr. Steven Chu and worked on special projects and was detailed to the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to manage a tech transfer and commercialization portfolio.

Tim Hade (LEED AP) is co-founder and COO at Scale Microgrid Solutions, where he focuses on developing sustainable distributed generation technologies to serve mission-critical facilities. Prior to joining Scale, Tim served as the Business Development Manager for ENER-G Rudox (now Centrica Business Solutions), where he oversaw the development of the company's microgrid projects and built the company's performance contracting division. In 2015, Tim's white paper "Sustainable Load Balancing: Integrating Distributed Natural Gas, Solar PV, and Energy Storage Assets" was named the 2015 Renewable Energy World Paper of the Year. Prior to joining the cleantech industry, Tim served on Active Duty as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He holds a B.S. from the U.S. Air Force Academy and an MBA from Stanford University.
