Don't Miss this - Angel Investing Portfolio Strategy

With Doug Mandic, Alicia Robb, and DuWayne Peterson

Portfolio strategy is a challenge for every investor.  You can read books and experiment yourself with angel investment strategies - instead treat yourself to this webinar and learn from 3 experienced angel investors:

  • Alicia Robb - CEO and Founder of Next Wave Impact Fund and organizer of the Founders of Color Showcase - nationally and internationally recognized for her success with impact investing
  • DuWayne Peterson - Founder of Pasadena Angels, now a leader in the angel community in Colorado
  • Doug Mandic - active RVC angel investor, lead investor on successful RVC deals, and active mentor for founders, investors and the broader angel community

These three are literally "angels" - in the best sense of the word - and have made a difference in the success of many ventures.  Join this conversation moderated by Peter Adams, Executive Director, Rockies Venture Club, and learn from these rock stars in the Colorado community.

Portfolio theory is one of the most important aspects of angel investing.  Investors use this theory primarily to diversify risk across multiple investments. But there are many ways to do this and there are as many different theories as there are angel investors.  What are some of the leading edge ideas on this?  Hear from an RVC "Super-Angel" (with 50+ companies in his portfolio), from a well diversified investor (with ~25 companies) and an angel/fund manager who can share her views on fund diversification in contrast to angel portfolio diversification.

Here are just a few of the topics we'll be discussing:

  • What is the "right" number of companies?
  • Does the "right" number of companies change if you are often the "lead" investor or if you are serving on startup boards?
  • How long should it take to build a portfolio?
  • How much of my total investable wealth should go into an angel portfolio?
  • How much, if any, should I allocate to follow-on investments?
  • Does follow-on count as risk diversification, because deals are less risky later?
  • Is there a limit to how much support and advice you can give to your portfolio companies as your portfolio grows?
  • Once a portfolio reaches 5-10 years of age and exits are coming in, how does managing the portfolio change?
  • How much time does it take to build and to maintain an angel portfolio?
  • How does investing in a seed stage fund differ from building a portfolio yourself?
  • How do you think about different types of diversification in your portfolio beyond sheer numbers?  e.g. geographic, gender, race, sector, stage

We will look at some data on portfolio outcomes for individual angels and groups to give some insight into what angel investors should expect.
