    Virtual Event

Learn More About Colorado Capital Conference

Now, more than ever, startups are needing to be resilient to adapt to rapidly changing markets, economics, social disruption, and pandemics. Some companies can get by with the status quo, but many have had their business models turned upside down and have had to adapt quickly. These companies will be the winners of tomorrow.

Startup Communities need to be resilient too. It’s not enough to keep doing the same things in support of startups – we need new models of programs and resources to react quickly and provide funding, mentorship, markets and connections to keep our startups thriving.

Colorado has shown leadership in getting out ahead of this years’ crises and has continued to show its “give first” values while also expanding how we think of startup ecosystems.

Featuring keynotes and discussions from Colorado leaders such as Brad Feld, Mayor Michael B. Hancock, and many other, this event is not to be missed!

    Financial Strategy Class Cluster:

A combination of RVC's Valuation, Believable Proformas, and Financial Strategy courses
    For both investors and entrepreneurs

RVC's Financial Class Cluster has everything that investors and startup founders alike need to create and evaluate financial projections (proforma), to understand valuation and negotiation in a deal, and to think about capital strategy including the timing and amount of raises, total capital needs, milestones between raises, runway strategy and how to think about dilution in follow-on rounds.

RVC's course content is based on years of real-life stories and examples. Participants, both angels and entrepreneurs, are encouraged to bring their questions, proformas that they may be working with, and valuation assessments for real-time discussion.

Participants will receive spreadsheet templates for modeling valuations, dilution, and proformas, as well as a Capital Strategy Canvas to help them work through their own models. This is a fully practical approach designed to create "believable proformas" and valuations that get deals done, but don't dilute participants any more than necessary.

For those who want to better understand how to value an investment or their company, this is a must-attend class.

    Applied Angel Investing Skills

The purpose of the Angel Practicum workshop is to take the principles and concepts learned in Angel 501 and Angel 601 and put them to work in a live due diligence setting. However, Angel Practicum can be taken before 501 or 601; they should not be considered prerequisites for this workshop.

Angels will have the chance to work with a “live” deal in play beginning with a “deep dive” in-person with a company currently raising funds that has already gone through the due diligence process. The deep dive is a 90 minute rapid-fire Q&A session between the Angels and the entrepreneur. The information gained in this session is then used to prepare an outline-level due diligence document that identifies key risks, opportunities and additional inquiries for ongoing diligence research that is particular to the company.

Angels then have the chance to compare their findings with the professional due diligence done by the RVC Venture Capital Analytics team to compare results. This process gives the Angel a chance to calibrate with the RVC team and develop a better understanding of the tools and processes used to probe deeply into the companies considered for investment.

Participants then have the chance to evaluate three venture deals from the past and compare their assessments of risk and opportunity with what actually happened with the companies.

    Final Steps Class Cluster:

A combination of RVC's Due Diligence and Term Sheet courses
    For both investors and entrepreneurs

RVC’s Final Steps Class Cluster dives into due diligence and term sheets. Due diligence and term sheets are the final -- and some of the most important -- part of the investing process for both investors and entrepreneurs; they are also some of the most misunderstood aspects. This course moves well beyond just the due diligence checklist and talks about strategies for making the process more transparent and effective for everyone.

Due diligence is an essential process for investors to make a smart decision on whether or not to invest in a company. Statistically speaking, Angels see higher returns when they are active in the due diligence process. Entrepreneurs must also know what to expect during the diligence process so founders are fully prepared for anything an investor might ask, while maintaining momentum and effectively reducing the amount of time spent on fundraising.

After due diligence, the course moves into term sheets. The term sheet is the key document that summarizes the terms of the deal. Topics include understanding key terms in a term sheet, how to avoid dilution on both sides of the table, and best methods of negotiation.

Founders and investors are encouraged to bring a term sheet they’re working with and receive critique and advice from the class.

For those wanting an advantage in negotiating deal terms and expediting the angel investment process, this is a must-attend class.

    RVC St. Vrain Investor Forum

RVC Investor Forums bring together accredited angel investors interested in fast-growing, early-stage companies in Colorado. These forums serve to pool the wisdom, expertise, and capital of many individual angels, and start the RVC investment process.

At this forum, investor members will hear pitches from two founders.

After the pitches and Q&A with the founders, the founders are excused and investors discuss the merits and risks of each venture. There is no requirement to invest and each investor has an opportunity to indicate interest in following or leading a specific deal. The forum also provides an opportunity to review all open RVC investment deals.

This forum represents the start of the RVC deal pipeline, and is a great way to learn about companies from the founders themselves. Both new and experienced investor members are welcome at forums -- this is the best way to learn hands-on about angel investing!

To attend, you must be an accredited investor (net worth of at least one million US dollars, not including the value of one’s primary residence, or have made at least $200,000 each year for the last two years [or $300,000 together with his or her spouse if married] and have the expectation to make the same amount this year). We do not require a minimum investment.

    Strategic Planning Class Cluster:

A combination of RVC's Strategic Planning, Exit Strategy, and Go-To-Market Strategy courses
    For both investors and entrepreneurs

RVC's Strategic Planning Class Cluster has everything that investors and startup founders alike need to create a long-term strategy for startup companies. The workshop starts out by “beginning with the end in mind.” The exit strategy workshop is where founders will learn about building value not just for their first customer who buys their product, but for the “second customer” that is likely to acquire the company and return capital to investors.

Next, the course moves into the strategic planning segment, where founders work on defining mission, vision, and values that start the company on a strong foundation followed by development of OKR’s - the Objectives and Key Results needed to achieve the company’s goals. The OKR method is used by fast-growth companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon to focus their teams on success.

Finally, the workshop wraps up with lessons on creating a go-to-market strategy, often the area of the largest risk for early-stage companies.

For those looking to create strategies around growth and eventual exits (critical for returning capital to investors), this is a must-attend class.
